Each year International Women's Day is marked across the globe on the 8th March. The day is widely celebrated as an opportunity to draw attention to the struggle for women's rights worldwide and to demonstrate international sisterly solidarity with women everywhere.
In aid of global women’s rights organisation, Womankind Worldwide, our design team have created a unique “Pure Heart” tee where £5 from every sale will be donated to Womankind Worldwide (Scroll down to read all about the wonderful work Womankind Worldwide do below) The heart on the t-shirt is sketched open to show there is still more we can do to close the gap and achieve total equality for all women.
Join our campaign and show your support by sharing your charity tee on our Instagram using #PureHeart to celebrate strong women everywhere and support the movement for change.
Founded in 1989, Womankind works towards a world where every woman and girl can live free from violence and discrimination, have a say in the decisions affecting her life, and be free to know and claim her rights. Partnering with women’s rights organisations in Africa and Asia, Womankind works towards policies and laws that tackle discrimination and protect women from rights violations; universal access to appropriate, quality services that protect and restore women’s rights; and social change that supports the rights of women and girls.
Womankind works in solidarity and equal partnership with women's rights organisations and movements, from the local to the global level, to improve the lives and status of women across the world. Along with their network of partners, Womankind provides long-term sustainable change for women and girls by ensuring solutions are firmly rooted in local communities and contexts. Womankind strengthens and supports women’s rights organisations and movements by providing the tools and resources they need to change the lives of women, in the home, the workplace and the communities they live in. They also use their collective expertise to call for change across the world, challenging governments and international agencies to protect and promote women’s rights.
Womankind has also refined their approach to work in greater depth with women’s movements in several countries, and at regional and global levels to ensure women’s voices are heard, their rights are realised, and they have the freedom to make their own choices.
Women’s movements are, put simply, the women who are changing the world. They are broad social movements campaigning for women's rights at national, regional and international levels. Women’s movements throughout history have campaigned for votes for women, protection from domestic violence, for equal pay, and against sexual harassment. They get their collective voices heard and bring about long-lasting change for women. We are at a global turning point for women's rights. In the past three decades, women’s rights have been enshrined through declarations, policies and global frameworks. Womankind and its partners have been at the heart of advocating for these positive advances. Read the stories of women and girls who have faced and overcome discrimination and violence with the help of Womankind and its partners here.
There have been huge strides made for women in the last thirty years, more women than ever before have realised their human rights. Their right to have control over their own lives, their right to make their own decisions, their right to live a life free from violence. But not all women have been able to realise their rights. Progress hasn’t been even or equal. In some cases there’s even been a rollback on women’s rights.
2020 is a milestone year for women’s rights. Governments, UN representatives and activists are meeting throughout the year to review the current state of women’s rights across the world. Womankind Worldwide will be attending key UN events to demand action. This is an opportunity for us to send a clear message that we’ve had enough, now is time for action to make women’s rights a reality for #AllNotSome women. Here at Pure we are delighted to have an incredible female workforce full of inspiring women who empower and nurture extraordinary talents, as women make up the majority of our workforce and also our customer base. International Women's Day means different things to different people, but the universal focus on equality is clear, featuring in all aspects of women’s personal and professional lives. With this in mind, we asked two of our own female employees what International Women’s Day means to them.
“International Women’s Day means recognising the achievements of women across the world. For so many women managing the daily balance between work and home life, being both industrious and nurturing, is an achievement in itself and should be acknowledged for the contribution it makes both economically and to society.”
